When I asked for everyone’s goals for 2009, I expected some responses.

But I did not expect the absolute torrential flood of emails in my inbox.

So many people wrote to me with their goals and dreams that I almost didn’t know where to start.

First of all, I’d like to start with a success:

“Hi,

2008 got a lot better after I tried Physiology of  Excellence.

I was amazed it worked.

Thanks mate,
Keep up the excellent work.
Thank you,

Ali”

Hey Ali,

Glad your 2008 was great. Hope your 2009 is even better.

Keep using POE to reach for your dreams…

I love to hear from people who have used Physiology of Excellence to change their lives.

And there are a lot of them.

But there are also lots of people who still need some help.

Here’s one:

“I have kicked the cigarette out of my life and i feel great about the achievement.

In the middle of December I resolved not to carry smoking into the new year.

Somehow I feel this will last, because I really want to, and can make it last.

But I have another impediment I wish to go past this year: Fear of public speaking. To the extent that even in class asking a question takes me a lot of energy, causing embarrassing nervousness.

Yet I'm in a profession of asking questions - journalism.

Matters are not helped in this country by English not being my first language

I am uncomfortable always, often sweating. I hate it. Yet I have not managed to get rid of it so far.

There you go. I hope I can be helped.
Thank you again,

Ignatius”

Hi Ignatius,

Kudos on quitting smoking.

Many people I heard from would like to quit or are in the process of quitting.

So here are some quick tips to make sure you never go back to smelling like an ashtray—ever:

Take things one day at a time. If you think too far ahead it will seem way too hard and you might be tempted to give up.

Ask for help from friends and family. They are ready and willing to give you the support you need. Have someone you can call who will remind you of all the good reasons you quit.

Start an exercise program to get yourself back in shape.

Many people put on weight after quitting, so get yourself moving to prevent this from happening.

Best of luck.

Now, as far as your public speaking fear goes—you’re not alone.

I get emails all the time from people asking how they can get over the sweating, shaking, pounding heart—just to ask questions in class.

People are more afraid of public speaking than they are of dying.

Why is that? What is so scary about speaking in front of people?

Or to put it in other words, ask yourself: What is the worst thing that could happen?

The consequences of your speaking in public are more likely to be just plain embarrassing and not physically painful.

Really, when you think about it, it’s not so bad.

Then why is everyone still terrified?

And how do you get over it?

First, realize that many other people are in the same boat. They understand how you feel.

And, even if something embarrassing does happen, chances are nobody will remember it for more than 10 minutes—nobody except you.

Public speaking is not that scary.

And aren’t you jealous of the naturally confident people who seem to have no fear at all?

Wouldn’t you like to be one of those confident people?

Here’s how you make it happen:

Take small steps. Set yourself small goals, like asking a question in class.

Then try to venture a comment.

Then work up to speaking in front of a small group.

Each step you take, no matter how small, will make it easier.

Natural confidence comes from your inner beliefs about yourself.

If you believe you are confident and self-assured, it will ooze from every pore.

But sometimes you have to fake it until you make it.

Practice in front of the mirror. Find your confident expression and posture.

Practice so many times you could do it in your sleep.

Only then will it start to become a part of you.

And, most of all, use the Physiology of Excellence to create a whole new you.

A “new you” that is self-confident and ready to take on the world, who will kick butt in any seminar, meeting, conference, or interview.

Your copy of the Physiology of Excellence is waiting for you today. Claim it here:

And stay tuned for more of your Goals for 2009.

Peace. Harlan Kilstein
